GOAL

How to read from a barcode reader in Oracle Forms ?

FIX

Just connect the barcode reader to the PC and keep the cursor on the relevant field and then read the barcode. The system will accept it as an input and act as if the user had typed something in the field and pressed the enter/tab button .

The barcoder reader generally comes with installation software for the client, and when the reader is used, it sends characters to the computer just like someone were entering them from the keyboard manually. So as far as Forms is concerned,it doesn't know (nor care) if the characters are coming from the barcode reader or from the keyboard. It's completely transparent.

So simply place focus on the item in the form, then press the button on the reader and the item will be populated with the character string .
